Frequently Asked Questions 1of 2

Text Box: PRICING
Q. Do you have a minimum price for items?
A. 50 cents. All items must be priced in 50 cent increments (i.e., $3.50, $5.00. Etc.)

Q. Do you have a pricing guideline? Is pricing typically at yard sale level or more like consignment level?
A. Pricing is more like consignment level. Many large items can be priced at 50% of original price, depending on the condition. We usually recommend 1/3 original price unless it is a big name brand, or a special outfit for pictures, or new and still has the tags or big toy items. Those can go up towards 50% of the original price. Of course it depends on how bad you want to sell it.

TAGS
Q. I ran out of white cardstock. Do I have to use white?
A. As long as the cardstock is not textured and not a dark color like dark red or dark green, the color does not matter.

HANGERS
Q. Why do I have to use only metal hangers?
A. Vinyl coated hangers (from Wal-Mart, K-mart, etc.) do not slide on the racks and customers will not shop that area. Plastic hangers and the pant hangers with the cardboard bottom bar break, then the clothes are on the floor and they take up too much room on the rack. The wire hangers from dry cleaners and Kid’s Market slide on the racks, do not break, do not take up excess room on the rack and are all the same size, all of which makes your clothes look good and that helps them to sell.

SPRING SALE CLOTHES
Q. Are jeans accepted for spring?
A. Yes. Kids wear jeans year round here. They do sell better in the Fall Sale.

Q. Are long sleeves accepted for the spring sale?
A. Boys long sleeve dress shirts are worn year round. We accept long sleeve sweatshirts because of chilly nights camping, etc. Anything that is obviously wintery (i.e., wool, velvet, wide-wale corduroy, dark, fall colors) are not accepted for this sale. There is not enough room and people will be shopping for warm weather clothing.

FALL SALE CLOTHES
Q. I noticed that the clothes need to be fall items, does this mean no shorts, short sleeve/sleeveless shirts, sandals and no onesies?
A. Older boys wear khaki shorts and denim shorts almost year round here. Short sleeve t-shirts and short sleeve button up shirts are ok for boys. Girls need to be fall or winter styles and colors. Girls will layer plain, short sleeve t-shirts (or camis) year round. Onesies are worn year round. Anything that is obviously summery (i.e., linen, seersucker, springy flowers, sleeveless, sandals, etc. ) are not accepted for this sale. There is not enough room and people will be shopping for cold weather clothing.

DROP-OFF AND RECEIVING
Q. Can you tell me the difference between early drop off and receiving days?
A. Early drop off is not required and is just for convenience, to help you get the tagged items out of your house. We do not have many volunteer workers to help us so sometimes it can take a little time, and we do not give out Priority shopping numbers which are the passes for shopping the Contributor sale. The Priority numbers are given out Receiving weekend. Some people will bring all but 15 items to Early drop-off, then come back during Receiving with their 15 items to get the Priority shopping pass.

Q. I was interested in taking part in your kids market in March. I was wondering if at receiving you had to spend the night all night in order to keep your priority number. We have been taking part in the Birmingham kids market and they require you stay all night. I was curious as to what your policy was.
A. You cannot place chairs or something and leave and have that place in line saved when you come back. And you cannot save place in line for people who are not there, but are coming. Last sale the line did not start forming until ~4:00. So it is not an all night thing, Thankfully!

Q. I'll be out of town until the evening of the first day of receiving, can someone else drop off at least 15 of my items to get my priority number?
A. In this case you have three options. 1) If someone is dropping off their own items and items for you, then they need to get another adult to stand in line with them with the 15 items each so I can give each of them a priority number. I have to have two bodies (older teen or adult) in line to give two numbers. If that is not a possibility then, 2) That person can drop off the first 15 or more items and get a priority number, then get back in line with your 15 or more items to get the second priority number. Usually the line is pretty short by the time they are ready to get back in line. If either of those ideas don't work, 3) That person can drop off theirs Saturday and get their priority number and then they or you can come back and drop off more when you are back in town later Saturday or Sunday or Monday to get the other priority number.

HANGING CLOTHES
Q. I have some PJ's with a long sleeve and a short sleeve shirt as well as the PJ pants for either shirt ( 3 pcs. total ). I don't know how to pin the third piece.
A. For 3 piece outfits, you hang one shirt on the hanger (we recommend hanging the long sleeve). Then pin both the pants and second shirt to the back of the shirt that is hung on the hanger. The safety pin will go through the front and back of the waistband of the pants, and shoulders of the second shirt to be pinned to the shoulders of the hung shirt. Be sure the safety pin goes through the shirt and around the top hanger bar for support.

Q. Why can’t I hang the pants under the shirt on a two piece outfit?
A. Customers cannot easily see the seat of the pants and the zipper and buttons/snaps. They will think you are trying to hide something and many times will take them off the hanger and leave them on the floor. Always have pants, skirts, shorts, etc. safety pinned on the outside to the back of a shirt or jacket.

ATTACHING TAGS
Q. How do I tag vinyl raincoats and leather or faux leather clothes?
A. Safety pin the tag to the zipper pull, or hood string, or manufacturers label at the neckline so the tag can be seen but not place damaging holes in the clothing items. Also, tape may be used to attach the tag to the raincoat.

Q. I have several large items such as a high chair, exersaucer, and large toys. Do I just find a place on the top or front of them to safety pin the tag to?
A. Furniture, large toys, expensive items, etc. will have a Big Item Claim Tag (provided by Kid’s Market) filled out and attached to the item with the barcoded tag stapled to this claim tag. Large items do well using packing tape to attach the Big Item Claim Tag with the barcoded tag if there is no fabric to safety pin the tag to. You want the tag in a visible place but you do not want to damage the item (for example you don't want to tape on painted furniture). Be sure to place your 4-digit number on the item (can use masking tape for this) in case the tag is separated, so we will know who the item belongs to.

Q. What about bottles? Can I place them in a zip lock bag together? Do I tape the tag onto the front of the bag?
A. Zip lock bags are great for bottles or multiple like items you want to sell together. Please tape the tag to the front of the bag, using packing tape to secure the tag. Throw away used nipples before taping the bag closed.
